Odell Beckham Jr. could sustain ACL injury following Super Bowl LVI

Los Angeles Rams had one celebrated night where emotions were visibly high as they won the Super Bowl 56 on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium. To imagine that Super Bowl has come and gone, the night changed quickly for the wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr. who was suspected to suffer from another ACL injury on his left knee after a non-contact hit.

Odell Beckham Jr. has reached 5,000 career receiving yards in fewer games (54) than any player since the 1970 merger

OBJ injury

Previously, OBJ has had an ACL injury back in 2020 where it bothered his play during his time with the Cleveland Browns. Injuries have been part of him throughout his NFL career, but that night, what he went through was quite something.

During the game, the 29-year-old had three chances of touchdown. The first two was an immaculate performance as he received his first two passes of 35 and 17 yards, 52 in total. However, on his third attempt, he went down as he hauled a pass from QB Matthew Stafford.

“Beckham had 2 catches for 52 yards, 1 TD, and 1 moonwalk before the injury,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said on Twitter.

Beckham had to be sidelined as his left knee buckled. As the camera zoomed in, he was in visible pain. The three-time Pro Bowler was helped by trainers and was sent to the locker rooms. He then returned back to the sidelines to support his team in the second half.

Despite all the troubles, the Rams eventually could lift the Vince Lombardi trophy with a 23-20 victory against the Bengals.

“This is everything I’ve ever dreamed of, you know,” OBJ spoke to the media. “And there was a moment I was in the backroom and they told me I was done, I couldn’t play. And I had to come back out there and be a part of this because it’s so much bigger than myself. And these boys pulled through and made it happen.”

“I don’t feel deserving of this … I don’t know what to say.”

OBJ’s future career

“The best part about this team, Albert, is they played for each other,” McVay told Albert Breer, a reporter. “You bring in guys that are superstars like Von Miller and Odell Beckham [Jr.], and they were huge superstars that were instrumental in us winning this championship, but they wanted to win for their teammates as much as anything. I thought we came together as a team at the most important moments.”

Though it is obvious that Beckham will need time to recover, his injury could potentially impact his future career. Next year, the former Cleveland Brown will enter free agency as he only had a 1-year contract with the Rams.

The question lies in whether the team is willing to bring him back in 2022. The decision could only be made based on Beckham’s recovery timetable.

“#Rams WR Odell Beckham Jr is believed to have torn his ACL in last night’s Super Bowl win, source said. That means a long road of recovery for the free agent, who has a challenge to be ready for 2022,” Ian Rapoport on Twitter.

With seven months until the start of the regular season, it is possible for Louisiana-born player to come back in the first week.

According to reports, Beckham will have an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.
