OBJ could re-sign with Rams, possibly sit out entire 2022 season

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. reached the mountaintop as he helped the Rams secure winning the Vince Lombardi trophy last season. Although his performance did not disappoint him, his knee, unfortunately, was not able to handle the intensive running as OBJ dropped to the turf on a non-contact hit during the Super Bowl.

He was seen in visible pain immediately. Before the ACL injury, Beckham played a vital part in the Rams’ offense. He recorded 21 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in four playoffs games. Additionally, he had 27 catches for 305 yards and five TDs in eight regular seasons.

While the Rams fans hope that the 29-year-old will be able to recover soon, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Beckham will be ready to hit the field again at the beginning of November 2022. However, Dr. Rami Hashish, body performance and injury expert, recently spoke to Sportcasting where he voiced his opinion on OBJ’s case.

Rams GM Les Snead on OBJ: “He’s someone that we definitely want back. A little bit more complex situation based on the injury. We envision it being similar but different circumstances to last year. When Odell is ready to play, we’d appreciate him being part of (the Rams).”

Dr. Hashish on OBJ

The former New York Giant player announced his successful knee injury on his Instagram in February. Following a medical expert’s observation, OBJ might face another challenging step to get back to his previous physical ability.

“(OBJ) could play the end of the season, but if I ever advising him or his agent, I would say don’t try to come back this year,” said Hashish.

“Look at your long-term health. We just saw this with Kevin Durant, he had a torn Achilles and he could have made it back by the end of the season but he was like ‘I want to look out for my long-term health. I want to play another 5-10 how many years it is.’”

Hashish is the founder of the National Biomechanics Institute. He has been an expert on not only injuries in sports but also examining injuries in the workplace, motor vehicle, and aviation accidents for more than 1,000 occasions.

The physician also pointed out that Beckham should be getting the proper time for his body to heal and operate normally if he still wants to have a long-term career.

“That is probably the best approach. If you want a long-term look on your health, then it’s not worth a month to put yourself in that type of danger,” Hashish added. “You’d rather play five years very healthy than a portion of one season and be a little bit limited the next couple of years. It’s not worth it.”

In a nutshell, the Super Bowl Champion must take many considerations if he wishes to play on a long-term career. Meanwhile, although the two-time Second-team All-Pro is in the free agency market, he seemingly has nothing to be worried about as many suitors have lined up, including the Rams.

OBJ’s future in Los Angeles

Early March, Beckham admitted that the Rams “feels like a home” and that he would sacrifice anything like a salary cap to stick with the Rams.

On Tuesday, Rams general manager, Les Snead, told reporters that OBJ is someone whom the Rams “definitely” want to “run it back” with, despite injuries.

“He’s someone that we definitely want back,” Snead told The Associated Press. “A little bit more complex situation based on the injury. We envision it being similar but different circumstances to last year. When Odell is ready to play, we’d appreciate him being part of [the Rams].”
