Jimmy Garoppolo could be traded next season,

Although Jimmy Garoppolo has informally parted ways with the San Fransisco 49ers supporters and the Niners believed that it was time for Trey Lance, and yet technically, he never declared any formal goodbyes.

It would possibly mean that the team is retaining Garoppolo. Additionally, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter told Ari Meirov on Wednesday that he did not believe that the quarterback will be traded.

Chatted with @AdamSchefter on this week’s show previewing the offseason and what to expect in the QB carousel (Wilson, Wentz, Kyler, Watson, Garoppolo, Carr, Brady and more).

The NFL just never stops.

Garoppolo in the 49ers

Garoppolo’s role as San Fransisco 49ers quarterback has brought the highs and lows. In early 2018, the former Eastern Illinois standout led San Francisco to victories in his first five games which earned him a $137.5 million five-year contract.

However, the pitfall for the former New England Patriot’s future with the Niners appeared in early 2021 when the team traded up in the first round of the NFL Draft to take North Dakota State prodigy, Trey Lance.

Although many criticized Garoppolo for his play, he did have NFL first-team experience. As for now, he is the only active quarterback with multiple Super Bowl rings after Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger retire.

Unfortunately, Jimmy G experienced his 2021 season ended in disappointment as the 49ers blew a 17-7 fourth-quarter lead to lose 20-17 to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game.

Entering his last year with the 49ers, the existing belief is that the two-time Super Bowl champion will likely be traded to fully turn the page to the Lance era and Adam Schefter is not buying the idea yet.

Is Jimmy Garoppolo a lock to be traded this offseason? @AdamSchefter says not so fast…

Garoppolo unlikely scenario to be traded

In a video podcast appearance on Wednesday hosted by Ari Meirov, he stated to Garoppolo’s future career to play with a new team next season is “Not a lock”.

“Maybe they do trade (Garoppolo), I’m not telling (Meirov) you’re wrong. It still is absolutely on the table that he could be moved. I think (Garoppolo) believes he’s going to be moved. I’m just giving (Meirov) the other side. I don’t think it’s a lock that (Garoppolo is) going to be traded. He very well might, but it’s not a lock.”

Schefter shoots down about his prediction and explained further another reason why Garoppolo should not be traded with Trey Lance.

“I’m just telling you that Trey Lance was probably further behind than people realized,” Schefter told Meirov.

“Trey Lance is greener than people realized. Trey Lance is going to need more work than people realized. And they have a roster that can win now,” Schefter referring to the Walter Peyton awardee, Garoppolo, though he will need some mentorship.

Trey Lance is a two-time FCS champion. Though hearing the statement from Schefter could make it sound real, people need to recognize that Schefter isn’t saying that Lance is a total lame-duck, but probably just not that ready yet as for some reasons.

“(Lance) is developing the right way. They are happy with him. But I go back to my initial statement, that he did not play college football at all two years ago. He’s coming from a small school, to begin with. And there is a steep learning curve for a quarterback like that who’s blessed with a lot of talent, who they still are very high on.”
